Hiram First Baptist Church
Quarterly Conference
January 11, 2015

Pastor Joe (Moderator) called the church into conference.

Gregg Goff opened in prayer.

Malissa Hays (secretary) read previous minutes for approval. Minutes accepted as given.

Committee Reports:

AWANA – Christy D. – Currently 52 in attendance. There were 16 kids sponsored on the last Go Night. The upadated calendar is on the website.

Baptismal – Ken Lamb – 10 were baptized In October.

Benevolence– Gay Green – We have served one family so far due to a death.

Home Missions – Gay Green – The Angel Tree was a huge success. The church sponsored 121 children for Christmas. The Youth sponsored 5 of those.

Children’s Church – Angel Barnes – There will be a drive in movie night on Feb 21st. We will need donations of large moving boxes to decorate for this event. The annual Spring Fling & Egg Hunt will be on March 28th.

Sunday School – Ken Lamb – Currently an average of 70-80 in attendance. There was 98 in attendance today. The breakfast program has started and has been a success thus far. Gail Turlington is doing all the cooking for breakfast, so she is in need of help.

Women’s Ministry – Michelle Plunkett – We are currently planning a Mother’s Day Tea and are already in the planning stages for the annual ladies Christmas dinner.

Finance – Joyce Beal – Joyce explained the budget reports. There is only $137,677.90 left to pay on the building note. We are on target to pay off by January 2016. Gregg Goff made a motion to accept the finance reports. Motion accepted and reports approved.

Foreign Missions – Joyce Beal – The shoebox ministry (Operation Christmas Child) was a huge success. We are currently sponsoring Pastor Justus Banuel with a donation of $100/month.

Golden Girls/Widows – Debbie Lamb – We have several events coming up. We will be going to Cracker Barrel in January and we have a social in February with Martha Evans scheduled to speak.

Greeters – NTR

Men’s Ministry – Jarrod Gassett – They are going on a Men’s Conference on Jan. 30th & 31st. We are planning on starting a men’s Bible Study in February.

Nursery – Perry Boggs – We are in need of more nursery workers.

Trustees – NTR

Ushers – Ken Lamb – Currently have 6 men serving. Any men interested in serving as an usher, please see Ken.

VBS – Melanie Pope – The VBS team will be going to a conference Jan. 23rd & 24th to kick off the planning for VBS 2015. VBS will be June 7th-12th. They are planning on having a promotional day the Saturday before.

Church Camp – NTR

Weddings – NTR

Youth – Jessica Monk – They raised $500 from the Bake Sale which was used to sponsor 5 children from the Angel Tree. They are looking at the possibility of going to Youth Camp this summer.

By Laws – NTR

Events – NTR

Music – Keith Davis – If your ministry has an announcement that you want on the screens (“in the loop”), please see any member of the Media Team (Chris Pope, Teresa Davis, Rusty Monk & Joe Turlington). The media team email is The choir has been full, if you have noticed, the piano has been moved to the side to make more room.

Kitchen – Margaret Bailey – Currently planning for Homecoming, which is May 17th.

Celebrate Recovery – Tom Payne – We are in need of more workers. If you are interested, please see Tom.

Building & Grounds – Ken Lamb – We have several projects in the works – sod around the trailers, gutters, getting the front parking lot repaved and looking to purchase playground equipment.

Deacon – Gregg Goff – NTR

Cleaning Committee – Preston Morgan – Currently have 4 groups cleaning. We need more help. The more groups we have, the less frequent you will have to clean.

Reports are accepted and approved.

New Business

Gregg Goff-        The deacons recommend to rename the worship center after Pastor Quinn Evans.

Bruce Dutton –    The bus search committee is Bruce Dutton, Marvin Beal, & Ricky Mahan. They have found a bus that we are interested in purchasing. The current owner is Crosspoint Church. The committee looked at the bus on Tuesday, Jan 3rd. The details are:

1997 Freightliner

24 passenger capacity

Allison Transmission

Recent repairs (new brakes, new tires, etc.) of $11,804.74

A/C charged on 7/29/14

Asking price:  $15,000

Joyce Beal –        Insurance on this bus will be $827 annually.


Mandy Hart – Is a 24 passenger bus big enough and do we need a bus with a bathroom? Joe said we won’t use the bathroom and to keep in mind this is just going to be the first bus we purchase.

Perry Boggs –    In regards to the bathroom, will it need to be dumped and if so, where? Joe – we are planning on not using the bathroom, but if an emergency arises, the ministry using the bus will be responsible for paying to have it dumped.

Gail T. – Will we need a protective cover?  Yes, eventually we will pour a pad and have an awning for it.

Preston – ADA Compliance? Bruce – we are looking into what is required with that.

Tommy Bruce – moves that we close questions and vote.

Pastor Joe – Church voted on the business of purchasing bus…bus purchase approved.

Tommy Bruce made a motion to close conference.

Conference closed.
